Heritage-Tracker is a comprehensive web-based system to support the management of cultural and historic heritage.

Benefits

  • Web-based system
  • Management of cultural and historic heritage
  • Supports formal registration processes
  • Supports certificates for formal ‘search’ transactions/affected places
  • Supports end-to-end management of conservation funding/grants and regulatory activities
  • Broad participation from different stakeholders – sharing of heritage knowledge

Registration of Heritage Places

This is where a property or place is nominated and may be accepted for inclusion on the Heritage Register.  Nominations may come from individuals, community groups or organisations, or from the result of a heritage survey undertaken by Heritage organisations or other interested parties.

Works Approval

This is the process where approval is given for work to a property or place which is on the Heritage Register.  A person must not carry out any work in relation to a registered site which may affect the historic cultural heritage significance of the place, until the work is first approved, or exempted by the Heritage Council.

Conservation Funding Applications

Using Heritage-Tracker, funds are administered for Heritage Register listed properties or places.  Applications may be made for assistance to fund a portion of the value of approved works.

Certificates for Affected Property / Place

This is the process where the public can determine if a place is listed on the Heritage Register.  The Heritage agency may issue a certificate that a property is not registered under an act, or affected by any decision or determination under an act.  This is usually part of the conveyancing process which takes place when a property changes hands.

Data Stored in Heritage-Tracker

Heritage-Tracker allows the data storage of a vast collection of information including general metadata, images, documents, file notes, court orders, category configurations, registrations, works applications and funding applications.  Heritage-Tracker can be your complete reference tool for heritage places and contacts.

Location Mapping

Heritage-Tracker provides convenient mapping functionality.  Heritage locations are displayed on a small-map on the left-hand side of every page.  Clicking the small-map navigates the user to view “BigMap” – an interactive map which pin-points locations.

BigMap view can display multiple spatial layers and includes zoom-in, zoom-out, pan and centre functionality.  It also allows individual map items to be selected from BigMap, and the user can then navigate directly to the location’s management pages.

Web Interface

Heritage-Tracker is built using web technologies.  Some of the benefits include:

  • Interfaces – restricted views depending on the user’s profile
  • Access anywhere in the world – can be accessed via web browser from any location
  • Bookmarks – ability to create shortcuts to commonly accessed pages
  • Data replication with other data sources – can syndicate information from other data repositories and also syndicate information to other data repositories
  • Spatial synchronisation – a two-way role based on synchronisation of data fields between Heritage-Tracker and the GIS

Heritage-Tracker’s home page allows the user to view all places, registrations, work applications, funding applications and contracts, or view a subset by entering search-filter criteria.  Access restrictions apply, depending on the roles assigned to the user.

Each of the items listed in the search results include a hyperlink that navigates the user to the item’s associated management pages.  Different areas of management functionality are accessible via a multi-level tab-based-menu, for ease of use and intuitive navigation.
